Tyler Christopher, best known for his Emmy Award-winning ABC medical soap opera General Hospital which ran for 2 decades (1996-2016) and also Days of Our Lives (2018-2019) died due to cardiac arrest at the age of 50 in his San Diego apartment.
His former 'General Hospital' costar Maurice Benard confirmed the actor's death on Instagram. The executive producer of the show also extended his condolences.
The news comes days after the demise of actor Mathew Perry who was hailed for his decade-long iconic character of Chandler Bing in the celebrated show FRIENDS. Perry was found dead in the bathtub of his Los Angeles apartment.
General Hospital Actor Tyler Christopher Dies At 50
Maurice Benard upon breaking the news of Tyler Christopher's death penned a heartfelt note on his Instagram caption sharing a photo of the late actor. Benard in his Instagram post appreciated his co-star and friend for his acting, for being a great person and a friend, and as well as for advocating mental health awareness and substance use.
Benard in his caption referred to Tyler as a "talented individual" and continued by saying that the actor used to light up the screen in every scene he performed and also referred to his fans that the actor never failed to relish the joy to his loyal fans.
Benard's note continued praising Tyler not just for his acting but also for being a sweet soul and a wonderful friend to everyone who knew Tyler.
The co-star also appreciated Tyler for advocating mental health issues and substance use treatment and for openly talking about his personal bipolar depression and alcoholism struggles. Benard also wrote that they were "beyond devastated" by the loss of a dear friend and would pray for his children and his family.
Confirming Tyler Christopher's Death:
Tyler's rep Chi Muoi Lo has confirmed the actor's death to the NY Post in an official statement. Lo called Tyler not just a gifted actor but also an amazing friend. Lo continued by saying that his heart goes to the actor's family, friends, and everyone who loved him.
General Hospital Producer:
Frank Valentini, producer of the soap opera show, General Hospital also expressed his condolences on Tyler's death and said to People, that on behalf of the whole GH family, their heartfelt sympathies go to all the actor's loved ones in these difficult times.
