Gauri Khan Birthday: Indian film producer and designer Gauri Khan turned 51 today. A lot of celebrities have taken to social media to wish Khan who is also Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan's wife. Among the ones who have wished her is her daughter Suhana Khan. She took to Instagram and shared one of her favourite throwback photos of her parents and captioned, "Happy Birthday, Ma". This is also the first post from Shahrukh Khan's family since his son Aryan Khan got arrested in the drug case.
On her 51st birthday today, let us revisit the time when Gauri Khan came out in support of her daughter Suhana Khan who was being bullied by people who said that her skin tone was “too dark” and called her ugly.
Suhana Khan's post
In October last year, Suhana had taken to Instagram last year to call out the people who commented on her complexion and height. She also shared a powerful message about why there is a need to end colourism.
She had shared a strongly worded post urging everyone to ‘end colourism’. She shared screenshots of the trolls who criticised her for her complexion calling her ‘Kaali’ and ‘Ugly’. In the caption, she mentioned that she was quite happy with her complexion and everyone else should be too.
“There’s a lot going on right now and this is one of the issues we need to fix!! this isn’t just about me, it’s about every young girl/boy who has grown up feeling inferior for absolutely no reason. Here are just a few of the comments made about my appearance. I’ve been told I’m ugly because of my skin tone, by full grown men and women, since I was 12 years old. Other than the fact that these are actual adults, what’s sad is that we are all indian, which automatically makes us brown…” she had written on her Instagram.
"I’m sorry if social media, Indian matchmaking or even your own families have convinced you, that if you’re not 5”7 and fair you’re not beautiful. I hope it helps to know that I’m 5”3 and brown and I am extremely happy about it and you should be too. #endcolourism.”, she added.
Gauri Khan's response
Gauri Khan, after Suhana Khan's post, had taken to Instagram to back her daughter. She shared a picture of herself and penned a note on women empowerment. Here's her post.
I am a woman.
Protector, muse, wanderer, achiever, dreamer...
You only see a part of me. The part that is rooted in my role, not in my soul.
All that’s unseen completes me, and from there I draw my strength.
This image is a reminder to stay #RootedToStrength.
Tag women who inspire your soul. Post a cropped image of yourself, share this text and let’s create a global grid of strength.", she wrote.
Friends Who Have Wished Gauri Khan
Director Farah Khan took to social media and wrote in her birthday wish, "Happy birthday to the strongest mother and woman I have personally witnessed this past week."
Interior designer Sussanne Khan has also wished her. "God's love and grace will always be on your and your loved one's heads...I love you loads," Sussanne wrote on social media.
