Freedom at Midnight is a political drama that will highlight key individuals and events during the period of independence. Based on Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins' novel of the same name. The novel depicts the tumultuous year of India's independence from the United Kingdom in 1947.
It covers the final year of the British Raj, from 1947 to 1948, beginning with Lord Mountbatten of Burma's appointment as the last Viceroy of British India and ending with Mahatma Gandhi's death and funeral. The book's narrative approach immerses readers in the visual landscape of the fall of the British Raj and allows them to enter the minds of the time's great personalities.
Nikkhil Advani will direct the series while Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, and Gundeep Kaur collaborated on the script. In a statement, Advani stated about the series, "The year 1947 is inscribed in India's history as the year that moulded its fate. Freedom at Midnight is an attempt to communicate to Indians the entire truth about the events that brought us to our freedom-the courage and optimism instilled in people by the personalities who gave us the new India."
