Follow Kar Lo Yaar

Some days, it feels like I'm questioning what I’m chasing, wanting to slow down. Other days, it's a relentless drive, like, if not now, then when? And that's how life is flowing by, vulnerable and unpredictable. But somewhere, someone is weaving this vulnerability into a firm belief that success is not just a dream but a destined reality. But how?

Amazon Prime’s new series Follow Kar Lo Yaar stars Uorfi Javed and captures her many sides from April to May 2024. On some days, she’s hungry for fame; on others, she craves respect. Some days, it’s money she’s after, some day’s aim is to establish a brand and on others, she’s seeking control over her own life. Where does this hunger come from, and how does she satisfy it?

In this nine-episode series, you'll immerse yourself in Uorfi Javed's world, getting a comprehensive look at everything she's revealed in snippets across interviews and podcasts. But that would not stop you from binge-watching—it takes just 20 minutes into the first episode to get hooked on the untold side of showbiz and see how Uorfi became the Uorfi we know. The series also features a lively cast, including Uorfi's personal manager, PR team, bodyguard, stylist, helpers, lawyer, friends, and her chaotic family.

The Sultana Family Saga

While the showbiz drama hooks you, the real entertainment is in the raw family saga of the Javed sisters, their mother, Zakiya Sultana, and their brother, Sameer Aslam. The series pulls back the curtain on a conservative, patriarchal household in Lucknow, where each daughter’s birth was met with growing resentment instead of celebration. By the time the third daughter was born, the environment had turned so toxic that the two eldest sisters had no choice but to flee. Years later, the father leaves the family to start over. Though exact timelines are vague, it’s evident that it took a decade for this family to find peace and finally embrace a new chapter.

You’ll get to encounter a side of Uorfi that’s unapologetically assertive, self-centred, emotionally distant, and brash. But beneath these traits lies a response to the deep pain and struggles of her past. In one of the conversation with her therapist, Uorfi openly reveals her quest for respect and validation, "Mai chhahti hu mujhe log izzat ki nazar se dekhe," articulating her profound yearning for respect, which was never there since birth, merely due to her gender.

In another conversation with Orry, she highlights her resilience in the face of systemic gender bias saying, "I had no privilege; the only privilege was that I was born ladki, and I used that to change my destiny."

In another conversation with family, we hear her say, "Jab hum bhookhe mar rahe the, society nahi aayi thi hume khilane," and in another candid moment, she declares, “It’s my wish, my body—I will do whatever I like—botox, fillers, implants, anything," she challenges, reinforcing her refusal to be swayed by societal judgements about her choices.

"Society did not come to save me, so why would I listen to it now?" she declares, underscoring that society is just a superficial construct, a lesson she learned long ago.

Follow Kar Lo Yaar Is Beyond Fashion & Surgeries

You’ll get to witness Uorfi inspiring her sisters to pursue their careers, supporting her mother through a legal divorce, and advocating for agency through surgeries or fashion, but without preaching much about empowerment through her actions. Instead, it offers a raw, unfiltered look at Uorfi's determination to live on her own terms and reinvent herself.

With the tagline, "I am the queen; all eyes are on me," Follow Kar Lo Yaar is both a bold declaration and a heartfelt plea from Uorfi Javed. The series makes it clear she'll do whatever it takes to secure her bank balance, spotlight, and respect, but she’s also anxious about the potential of it all fading away. Don't let her fears become reality, catch the series on Amazon Prime.
