FLAMES is back with its new season and some drama and romance. Looking at young people falling in love makes the others nostalgic about their stories of first love and how hopeful everyone used to be about life.
Most of us have played flames on the back of our notebooks during a class to see how compatible we are with our crushes. The series Flames starts with a very innocent love story, a feeling that almost everyone is familiar with. It's comforting and sad that we all forget these tiny moments of joy when life happens. Teenage is not just about love but also studies and pressure from parents, as they often call it, the foundation of our career. Growing up in India, your life's worth is measured by the marks you score in your board exam. Flames season 3 takes account of all these factors as they show us a glimpse of the lives of Rajat and Ishita.
Flames Season 3 Review
Flames Season 3 returns to its viewers with some hope for the lead characters who were earlier estranged temporarily following a miscommunication. Rajat, played by Ritvik Sahore, is at the centre of the story, along with his first love. Ishita, played by Tanya Maniktala. Rajat and Ishita go to the same coaching classes. It shows Rajat has been trying to improve things between himself and Ishita. To do that, like a typical Indian man in love, he jumps to try grand gestures to " target="_blank" rel="noopener">persuade his ladylove. He ends up hurting Ishita rather than making up to her. Ishita, on the other hand, is sceptical about Rajat following the previous incidents when he broke her trust, an effort toward self-preservation.
A Tale Of Two Fathers
For us, the parents of the lead characters stole this season. Ishita and her loving single dad share a frank and beautiful bond. Ishita's father is one of those who keep up with age and doesn't let anyone's judgement affect their child's self-esteem. There are no secrets between Ishita and her father about her friends or even Rajat. He is the dad every daughter wishes to have.
On the other hand, Rajat grew up in a strict household with a not-so-lenient patriarch and a softer mother who tries to shield her husband and the kids, but his demands are always fulfilled. Rajat has an older brother who is an IIT student and often than not, set an example for Rajat to follow his path. Rajat is sure of one thing about his studies he doesn't want to pursue science or become an IIT graduate. This creates tension between the family members, which leads to a dangerous situation. Rajat's father has internalised patriarchy, he wasn't allowed to speak his mind, and now he is doing the same to his kids. He fails to be a loving father to his children but has a moment of epiphany when he overhears a conversation between his sons about their perception of him.
The love birds take their romance slowly and go through several ups and downs. Teenage is when kids can make mistakes, learn, and do over as their parents watch their backs. The tale of the two dads shown in the series represents the need for direction and stability in the lives of teenagers. Being too controlling can never yield good, but a hearty conversation can improve lives. Here's to all parents growing up and learning from their mistakes with their teenage kids!
Featuring Ritvik Sahore, Tanya Maniktala, Sunakshi Grover and Shivam Kakar, FLAMES Season 3 available on Prime Video.
