Critically acclaimed for her Netflix show Leila, Huma Qureshi will be next seen in SonyLiv's new political web drama, Maharani.
In the show, Qureshi plays the role of Rani Bharti, who is the wife of Bihar's Chief Minister Bheema.
The show is inspired by 90s Bihar when Rabri Devi became the Chief Minister of Bihar after her husband Lalu Yadav and served three terms between 1997 and 2005. The teaser of the show was released on Friday, April 9.
The web series is created by Subhash Kapoor, who made Jolly LLB and directed by Karan Sharma. The show also stars Amit Sial, Sohum Shah and Pramod Pathak.

The Gangs of Wasseypur 1 and 2
Huma Qureshi made her Bollywood debut with Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur and she was appreciated by film critics in her very first film for her amazing performance.
The film is about three families over three generations namely of the butcher Sultan Qureshi, Ramdhir Singh who is a mafia-turned-politician and Pathan Shahid Khan.
On the eighth anniversary of the film, Qureshi said that the film changed her life and made her dreams true.
Dedh Ishqiya
Huma Qureshi and Madhuri Dixit starred-film Dedh Ishqiya is the sequel of the 2010 film Ishqiya. Qureshi's work was praised by the critics and also by her co-star Madhuri Dixit. In the film, the actor is seen in the role of Munniya and she is seen in a close relationship with Dixit's Character.
The actor's chemistry with Madhuri Dixit was praised a lot. For the film, she won the Stardust Awards for the Breakthrough Supporting Performance - Female, and International Indian Film Academy Awards for the Best Supporting Actor- Female.
Badlapur
Huma Qureshi played the role of a sex worker Jhimli, in the film Badlapur. In an interview, the actor said that she was in doubt and a little scared to take the role as it was so intense.
Sriram Raghavan's film Badlapur is said to be quite hard-hitting and dark. Even though the character of Jhumli was tough to play, the actor portrayed the edgy character and also gained acclamation from the critics.
About the film, Qureshi said that she was scared to join the movie thinking that it would be too much and too dark, but eventually did it because everyone in the team believed in it.
Jolly LLB 2
In Subhash Kapoor's Jolly LLB 2, the sequel to Jolly LLB, Huma Qureshi played the role of Pushpa, who is the wife of Jolly Mishra who is a lawyer. Jolly tricks a widow to give him money so that he can open his own law firm.
But when he knows that the woman committed suicide, and her husband went through injustice, he feels remorse and guilt. Jolly then decides to take over the case related to the woman's family and get her husband justice.
In the film, the actor played the role of a housewife who helps his husband to solve a case that he is stuck on.
Leila
Leila is a dystopian show set in the year 2040 in India which is known as Aryavarta. Future India is a totalitarian state which is divided on the basis of religion and caste. Every community is completely separated from each other with tall walls. To achieve the purity of a community, intermarriages or intermingling between them is penalised.
Any transgressor is separated from their family to be sent to special facilities for purification.
Huma Qureshi plays the role of Leila who is one of the transgressors and is married to a Muslim man which is considered a crime. Leila's daughter is separated from her, and she tries to find her daughter throughout the show while also uncovering a political conspiracy.
Qureshi's performance in the show is highly praised by the viewers and critics alike.
