Kuttey To Thunivu: Five Films To Watch This Festive Weekend

With Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Sankranti in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Lohri in Punjab, this weekend is full of festivities. Adding to the fun and entertainment, the film industry releases five films: two in Tamil, two in Telugu, and one in Hindi. So, film lovers, gear up for a entertaining week.

Kuttey

Kuttey is a much-awaited Bollywood film that's gearing up for its release. The trailer for the multi-starrer was released in December 2022. The film is yet another dark thriller from the makers of Kaminey and Haider. Kuttey narrates the story of a few small gangs in Mumbai that indulge in crime and betrayal out of greed for huge sums of money. The film is a multi-starrer with a stellar cast. Arjun Kapoor plays the lead. The cast includes three female actors—Tabu, Konkana Sen Sharma, and Radhika Madan in pivotal roles, and that increases the excitement. The movie also features Naseeruddin Shah, Kumud Mishra, and Shardul Bhardwaj in supporting roles. The film is written and directed by Aasmaan Bhardwaj and produced by Vishal Bhardwaj Films, T-Series Films, and Luv Films. Kuttey is Aasmaan Bhardwaj's directorial debut. The film is scheduled to be released in theatres on January 13, 2023. 

Varisu

Varisu, Vijay's much-anticipated film, is all set for release. The film is directed by Vamshi Paidipally and produced by Dil Raju, and it looks like a commercial family entertainer. The trailer was released on Wednesday by the actor and the makers of the film. The trailer hit 23 million views and 1.8 million likes within 24 hours. The trailer pretty much reveals the entire plot. Varisu narrates the story of a wealthy family that owns a huge business empire. Vijay is the youngest of the three sons and is not very involved in the family business. When a rival businessman is targeting the family and the business, Vijay steps in to unite the family and protect the business empire. The star cast includes Vijay as the protagonist and Prakash Raj as the antagonist. Rashmika Mandanna is paired opposite Vijay. The cast also includes Sarathkumar, Jayasudha, Shyaam, Srikanth, Prabhu, Kushboo, and Sangeetha Krish in supporting roles. The film will hit theatres on January 11, 2023, as the state of Tamil Nadu celebrates Pongal.

Thunivu

Ajith Kumar’s long-awaited film Thunivu is ready to hit theaters. The action-heist film is directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor. The trailer for Thunivu was released on New Year’s Eve by Zee Studios South on their Twitter handle. It was then shared by the film’s producer, Boney Kapoor, on his Twitter. The trailer received 50 million views on YouTube. The film explores the story of a robber and his team hijacking a bank and holding the people inside as hostages. They demand that their needs be fulfilled by the government in exchange for the safe release of the hostages. Ajith Kumar is playing the anti-hero. Manju Warrier plays the female lead, who appears to be his partner in crime. Unlike typical action films, Manju Warrier seems to have a strong character arc. The cast also includes Samuthirakani, John Kokken, Ajay, GM Sundar, Veera, Prem, and Bhagavathi Reddy. The film is all set for its Pongal release on January 11, 2023.

Waltair Veerayya

Waltair Veerayya, starring Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi, is set to hit theaters. The action-packed family entertainer is directed by K.S. Ravindra and produced by Naveen Yerneni, Y. Ravi Shankar, and Mohan Cherukuri under the Mythri Movie Makers. The trailer for the film was released on January 7, 2023, and promised the audience a mass entertainer. The plot of the film revolves around Chiranjeevi, a local don whose authority is threatened by Ravi Teja, the city commissioner. With power-packed action sequences, a foot-tapping dance number, sentimental scenes, and dynamic punch dialogues, Waltair Veerayya seems to be a pakka commercial film. Chiranjeevi plays the protagonist, Shruti Hassan plays his love interest, and Ravi Teja plays a pivotal role. The cast also includes Catherine Tresa, Prakash Raj, Sathyaraj, Nasser, Bobby Simha, Rajendra Prasad, Vennela Kishore, and John Vijay in supporting roles. Waltair Veerayya will hit the theatres on January 13, 2023, as the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana celebrate Sankranti.

Veera Simha Reddy

Nandamuri Balakrishna’s film Veera Simha Reddy is ready to hit theaters. The film is directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The makers of the film released the theatrical trailer for the film on January 6. The trailer is packed with high-octane action sequences and lengthy monologues by Balakrishna. The action drama seems to be a typical Balakrishna film. While Balakrishna plays the lead and Shruti Hassan plays the female lead, the latter was not seen much in the trailer. The cast also includes Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Honey Rose, and Duniya Vijay. The film will release on January 12, 2023, coinciding with Sankranthi.
