Women have not just been breaking the glass ceiling in front of the camera in the entertainment industry but also carving a niche for themselves behind the camera. The 53rd Kerala State award has recognised and critically acclaimed many talented women for their contribution to cinema. Actor Vincy Aloshious won the Best Actress Award for her film Rekha.

Best Actor Female: Vincy Aloshious
After showcasing her exceptional talent in a handful of memorable characters, Vincy Aloshious won Best Actress Female at the 53rd Kerala State Film Awards 2022 for featuring the challenging role of Rekha. Written and directed by Jithin Isaac Thomas, Rekha is a thriller drama that follows Rekha, the titular character, a young sportswoman whose life gets entangled in a violent revenge mission over the event of an unfortunate night.
Best Character Artist: Devi Varma
Devi Varma won the best character artist award at the Kerala State Film Awards 2022 for her film Saudi Vellakka. The drama film is helmed by Tharun Moorthy, and Devi Varma portrays the role of Ayisha Rawther. Her character as an elderly woman received praise from the audience and has now received well-deserved critical acclamation. The film narrates the story of a 23-year-old man whose plans to get a Gulf visa come to a halt when he is summoned for a long-pending court case.
Best Child Actor Female: Thanmaya Sol
Thanmaya Sol bagged the state film award for best child actor female for her heartwarming performance in Vazhakku. According to Mathrubhumi, Thannmaya was unaware of her win and was returning home from school. Producer Jishnu Vijayan shared a wholesome video of Thanmaya’s reaction to hearing the news. She’s seen walking home in her school uniform when she is informed of her victory. She believed the news only after seeing the announcement on the phone.
Best Women/Transgender Sruthi Sharanyam
Sruthi Sharanyam won the special award for women/transgender for the film B 23 Muthal 44 Vare, which addressed issues like body politics and gender equality in a nuanced and sensitive manner. The film narrated the story of five women and a transman hailing from different strata of society who face social pressure in their daily lives with regard to their body image. The film was funded by the Kerala State Film Development Corporation to promote female filmmakers.
Best Playback Singer: Mridula Varier
The Indian playback singer won the Kerala State Award for Best Playback Singer Female for her song Mayilpeeli Ilakunnu from Vinayan’s Panthonpathaam Noottaandu. The music for the epic drama was composed by Santhosh Narayanan. The song has immensely impressed the audience with its amazing visuals and Mridula Warrier’s voice.
Best Costume Designer: Manjusha Radhakrishnan
Manjusha Radhakrishnan won the Kerala State Award for Best Costume Designer for designing realistic costumes for Saudi Vellakka.
Best Dubbing Artist: Pauly Valson
Pauly Valson, dubbed for the character Aisha Rawther in the film Saudi Vellakka. Devi Varma’s acting, paired with Pauly Valson’s voice, made the character Aisha Rawther one of the most commendable characters in Mollywood.
