Bollywood has quite a few actors who are the daughters of defence personnel. These actors hail from a family of courageous defenders of the country and are slaying the cinema screen with their talent. From changing many schools to turning to acting, these women are self-made, have taken a chance on themselves with no film patrons to support them.

Neha Dhupia

The Roadies leader and actor Neha Dhupia is known for her bold and fearless personality who never backs off on speaking her mind. The former Miss India gets her fearless attitude from her father, Commander Pradip Singh Dhupia who served in Indian Navy. Dhupia studied in the Delhi Army Public School for a few years and was a regular at the Defence Services Officers Institute in Daula Kuan, New Delhi. She contributes her discipline and personality to her military lineage and often takes out time to associate herself with army campaigns and programs.

Celina Jaitley

Actor Celina Jaitley was born to army parents, her father Colonel V.K. Jaitley and mother Meeta, an Afghan Hindu, both being in Indian army. Celina too was very much inspired by her parents and wanted to join army as a pilot or doctor but destiny had different plans for her as she went on to become Miss India and eventually an actor.

Sushmita Sen

This female actors from defence background has made India proud when she won the Miss Universe title and shot to face. Ever since she has delivered some fantastic acting in films and more recently in Aarya. Her father was part of the Indian Air Force and Sen herself studied in many air force schools such as Air Force Golden Jubilee School in Delhi's cantonment area. Sen's father, Subeer Sen, was a Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force. Sushmita Sen's confidence and discipline, as she says, comes from her air force background. Her father helped her train for Miss Universe title by teaching her oration. Sen calls herself an all rounder thanks to her forces upbringing.

Preity Zinta

Bollywood's dimple girl comes from an army background. Preity Zinta's father, Durganand Zinta, was an Indian Army Major and her brother is also an army commissioned officer. Her army background taught her discipline and multi tasking which helped her juggle her roles as an actor and entrepreneur she has said.

Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta is next in the list of female actors from defence background. The Miss Universe's father, L.K. Dutta, was a Wing Commander in Indian Air Force and her elder sister went in her father's footsteps and joined Indian Air Force as well. A major part of Lara's character and skill development happened in Air Force clubs where she learnt swimming, public speaking and also participated in beauty contests there.

Anushka Sharma

Hailing from Garhwal, Anushka Sharma's father Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma served the Indian army. Her traditional and disciplined upbringing in the army family led her to be someone who travelled the country, embraced change and built a rounded approach to life. Anushka, just like other actors from defence background, was always shifting from one place to another and studied in various Army schools in India.

Gul Panag's father Lieutenant General H.S. Panag served in Indian Army and was posted in many places in India as well as in Lusaka in Zambia. Gul Panag's travelling, love for aviation comes from her army background, which helped her learn a lot about different cultures.

Nimrat Kaur

Our next power girl and an army brat is actor Nimrat Kaur. Nimrat's father was a major in the Indian Army. Her family stayed back in Patiala when he was posted in Kashmir in 1994 where he was kidnapped by Hizb-ul-Mujahideen demanding the release of some terrorists and was killed seven days later when he refused. As per reports, Nimrat's father always encouraged his children to live a civilian life and hence he never put them in military school unlike other army kids.

Chitrangada Singh's father, Colonel Niranjan Singh served in Indian Army. She was raised just like other army kids, disciplined, brave and opinionated. Her army background was a reason she was raised in different cities like Kota, Meerut and Bareilly. Her brother is a golfer and he too trained in the sport often in army facilities for golf.

Her fearlessness runs in her family as this female actors from defence background's parents, Dr. Ashok Chopra and Dr. Madhu Chopra, both served as physicians in the Indian Air Force. Her parents were posted in Bareilly for a long time as well. Chopra has always credited her fearless attitude and confidence to her dad who was always open minded about his daughter experimenting different careers.
