Farhan Akhter And Mrunal Thakur Starring 'Toofaan' Gets Postponed Amidst COVID Surge

Mrunal Thakur starring Toofaan postponed in view of the current surge in the number of COVID-19 cases all over the country. Farhan Akhter, who is also starring in the movie, shared a note, informing about the postponing of the same, "our focus is completely on the pandemic."

The sports drama was previously scheduled to be premiered on Amazon Prime Video on May 21. However, it now stands postponed as COVID-19 cases continue to rise amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Akhter took to his social media on May 3 to share the news through a note captioned "In solidarity". The posted statement read, "The situation in India is truly heartbreaking, and we at Excel Entertainment and ROMP Pictures send our thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the pandemic."

Thakur also posted the same statement on her Instagram handle with the caption, "Let's join hands and stand in solidarity. Taking a step back as an artist but we promise we'll be back to entertain you in good time."

The movie is co-produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra under the banners of Excel Entertainment and ROMP Pictures respectively. Akhtar will play the role of a national-level boxer Aziz Ali in the Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed movie and Thakur will appear as his love interest, Pooja Shah.

The makers of the film also informed that the update regarding the new release will be notified in "due course of time".

The note ended with an awareness message that requested people to continue observing "COVID appropriate behaviour" and take the vaccine when the turn comes and urging everyone to "stay home, stay safe and stay united".

The film further casts Paresh Rawal who will play the role of Farhan's coach in the movie, along with Vijay Raaz and Darshan Kumar in key roles.

Thakur is most popular for her roles in Kumkum Bhagya and Love Sonia. The 29-year-old actor had two consecutive hits in the year 2019, Batla House and Super 30 in which she appeared opposite Hrithik Roshan.
