Film and television producer Ekta Kapoor has tested positive for COVID-19, she said in a social media statement Monday. The 46-year-old is the most recent name from the entertainment industry to be infected with the virus in the wake of mounting cases and fears surrounding the Omicron variant.
"Despite taking all precautions I have tested covid positive. I am fine and I request everyone who has come in contact with me to please test themselves," Kapoor said. Several of her industry colleagues, including Vikrant Massey, Hina Khan and Shweta Tiwari, wished her well in the comments.

Amid the scare of an impending third wave of COVID-19, several Bollywood celebrities have tested positive for the virus. In December 2021, friends Kareena Kapoor Khan and Amrita Arora caught the infection following attendance at social gatherings, photos of which were shared on their social media profiles.
Seema Khan and Maheep Kapoor of The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives fame revealed they were positive for COVID-19 too. Soon after, it was reported that Kapoor's family members Arjun Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor too were down with the virus. More on that here.

Ekta Kapoor, who was recently named by the Variety magazine in their 500 list of changemakers in the media world, was seen catching up with Fabulous Lives star and former Bollywood actor Neelam Kothari on the occasion of New Year's. They shared photos from the meetup on their respective social media handles; Kothari has not made any public statement on the status of her health.
Mumbai is presently among the cities driving a massive surge of infections in India, having recorded 8063 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest in Maharashtra. 50 fresh cases of the highly transmissible Omicron variant were recorded, taking the tally to 510 Omicron cases in the state. The other major city with a heavy caseload is Delhi, which recorded 3194 new cases over the last 24 hours.
