Supreme Court Says Ekta Kapoor Is "Polluting" Minds: 10 Things To Know

Ekta Kapoor is facing criticism for allegedly disrespecting soldiers and hurting the sentiments of soldiers’ families in her web series XXX. Arrest warrants were issued against the producer.

Kapoor moved the Supreme Court against the arrest warrant issued against her by Bihar’s court. On her plea for protection, the apex court said, “You are polluting the minds of the young generation of this country.”

The bench of Justice Ajay Rastogi and Justice CT Ravikumar asked, "OTT (over-the-top) content is available to all. What kind of choice are you providing to the people?"

What Is The Ekta Kapoor Controversy?

• Ekta Kapoor is a producer and director who has worked in Hindi cinema and television series. She is the creative head of Balaji Telefilms Limited and launched ALT Balaji. She and her mother Shobha Kapoor served as co-producers on the popular soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kahbi Bahu Thi.
• Kapoor's web series XXX, an erotic comedy-drama drew flak for allegedly insulting the national emblem, Hindu gods, and army personnel.
• A complaint was filed in 2020 by an ex-serviceman named Shambhu Kumar. He alleged that the second season of XXX featured objectionable scenes related to the wife of a soldier.
• He filed the plea against the series in a trial court in Bihar.
• Kumar's lawyer Hrishikesh Pathak said the web series aired on ALT Balaji, the OTT streaming platform owned by Kapoor's production company Balaji Telefilms Limited. Her mother Shobha is also associated with Balaji Telefilms Limited.
• The court issued summons to the mother and daughter and the duo was asked to appear before the court in connection to the complaint.
• Kapoor informed the court that certain scenes in the series were removed after objection and did not appear before the court.
• Since the Kapoors did not appear before the court, a warrant for arrest was issued against them.
• Kapoor moved the Supreme Court against the arrest warrant issued against her. The apex court slammed her and said she was "polluting the minds" of the youth of India.
• The court added that she was wasting the court's time and said, "Every time you travel to this court... we won't appreciate this. We will put a cost on you for filing such a petition."
