The trailer for Dunki debuted as Drop 4 on Tuesday, December 5, following the release of a teaser and two songs. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and an ensemble cast, this trailer delves deeper into the film's anticipated storyline, revealing heartwarming moments from the narrative. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, this film marks his first collaboration with Khan and is set to hit theatres.
In the Dunki trailer's opening scenes, Shah Rukh's character, Hardy, reveals himself while standing on the moving train's compartment door. He sets the scene in the village of Laltu in 1995 and introduces his friends, particularly Sukhi (played by Vicky Kaushal), who struggles with learning English, and Mannu (portrayed by Taapsee Pannu), always ready to defend Hardy against mockery for his poor English. Mannu is referred to as Hardy's "girlfriend."

Boman Irani's character, their English teacher, pledges to train them sufficiently for a chance to relocate abroad. Both Kaushal and Khan's characters justify their aspiration to move overseas without knowing the language, comparing it to the British rule in India, suggesting that the British governed India without knowing Hindi for a century.
Hardy and his friends embark on a risky journey, crossing the border while facing various dangers. In one scene, Khan is shown wielding a gun to defend against an attacker. However, the most significant moment in the trailer unfolds when Khan reveals his appearance as an elderly man, depicting Hardy 25 years later. Sporting a grey beard and wearing a yellow and blue-striped T-shirt, the older Hardy is seen participating in a race. This marks Khan's second role as an older character, following Vikram Rathore in Atlee's Jawan earlier this year.
