A Love Story Like No Other, Actor Dhanush And Aishwarya Rajnikanth

The love story of actor Dhanush and filmmaker Aishwarya Rajnikanth was straight out of a romantic novel. They met through their families but later fell in love. Aishwarya is two years older than Dhanush. But the couple has now decided to move their separate ways after 18 years of marriage. They have announced a separation through a note on social media.

On January 17, the duo put out a statement on Twitter announcing separation. Dhanush in his Twitter post wrote, "18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting."

Aishwarya Rajnikanth and Dhanush have also worked professionally. Aishwarya made her directorial debut with 3 in the year, 2012. In the film, the lead roles were played by Dhanush and Shruti Hasan. The song Why This Kolaveri Di was from this film and it broke the internet in an unprecedented manner, soon becoming one of the most talked about viral videos of the time. Before this, they had professionally worked in Tamil films too. The actor was last seen in a Hindi film Atrangi Re, along with Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar.

In the note, Dhanush added, "Aishwarya and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better." The actor has requested everyone to give them privacy and respect their decision. The duo has two sons--Yatra and Linga--together.

Reportedly, the couple first met with each other during the screening of the Tamil film Kadhal Kondaen. The film starred Dhanush in the lead. After the screening ended, the two were introduced to each other and Aishwarya congratulated Dhanush on the performance. She later sent a bouquet to the actor, who felt it to be a nice gesture.

The media started reporting the two were dating. The actor, reportedly, came on record and denied all the claims around the couple's relationship status. But soon, the two met again.

This time, their family members arranged a meeting for the two. Later, the two began liking each other and dated for a while. They got married in 2004, after six months of courtship period. Both of them are from influential cinema families. Dhanush is the son of producer Kasthuri Raja and Aishwarya is the eldest daughter of megastar Rajnikanth. Aishwarya was 23 and Dhanush was 21 when they got married.

In an interview, Aishwarya had said, "The best thing about our relationship is the fact that we give each other plenty of space. Neither of us believes in changing for the other person just because we want to be together. When you are in your mid-20s your mind is set in terms of what you believe in and it is very hard to change yourself."
