Derry Girls Season 3 was lined up by the makers back in April 2019. However, the filming could not start until October 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Derry Girls is inspired by writer Lisa McGee and her personal teen experiences during the Troubles in the Northern Ireland.
The Netflix show follows the story of a young girl Erin Quinn and her cousin Orla as the two girls attend a Catholic Girls' school Thornhill College while dealing with the difficulties of teenage life during the Troubles in the town of Derry of Northern Ireland in the 1990s. The Irish-drama show stars Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, and Dylan Llewellyn in the lead roles among others.

It is expected that all the main cast of Derry Girls will be returning for the third season including Saoirse-Monica Jackson as Erin Quinn, Nicola Coughlan as Claire, James Maguire will be played by Dylan Llewellyn and Louisa Harland will be seen again as Orla McCool.
Expected Plot
Actor Nicola Coughlan teased her fans by reportedly mentioning that the storylines "are the best we've ever done". It is expected that the show will address the fates of various characters as the group will be dealing with the ceasefire in the city. Along with that, fans can possibly expect some romance between James and Erin in the third season.
According to reports, Derry Girls season 3 will have six episodes just like its previous seasons with a running time of about an hour.
Derry Girls Season 3 Release Date
The makers released the trailer for the upcoming season on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. There is no official date confirmed by Channel 4 or the makers of Derry Girls for Season 3.
