Derry Girls Season 3 Death: The Unexpected Twist In The Finale

Season 3 has finally ended things on a sad note with an unexpected death in the season finale. The last shot shows the girl gang Claire, Erin, Orla, Michelle, and James attending Claire's dad Sean's funeral with a cover of Praise You by Fatboy Slim playing in the background. It is revealed in the finale episode that Claire's dad Sean, played by David Ireland, dies after he suffers an aneurysm after the much-awaited Halloween party. The gang is too late in rushing to the hospital, in their Halloween costumes, and Claire is seen breaking this heartbreaking news to the gang as they huddle around her.

Talking about the death in the season 3 finale episode creator, Lisa McGee revealed- "The reason why I wanted to do this story is that it happened to my group of friends, My friend's dad died when we were around that age suddenly and it was a shock. The thing that really struck me was that we did grow up in this place where there was a lot of unpredictable stuff happening - you worried about a lot of violence - and this was a thing that could happen to anybody at any point - a natural cause thing. I was like 'Oh, God, no one's life's predictable, this could happen to anyone.'"

However, an hour-long special episode that will focus on moving things forward to the referendum on the Good Friday Agreement, will be aired to put a final end to the series. The hour-long episode is all set aired on Wednesday 18 May putting an official close on the Derry Girls. So far, there are no updates whether the season 3 will be released on Netflix.
