Demi Moore, one of the most popular Hollywood stars, revealed in her memoir Inside Out that she was raped at the age of 15 by a man who gave her mother $500 in return. She spoke about this openly at US TV Show Good Morning America while talking about her memoir.

Raped at 15, with her mother's knowledge

Speaking at the Good Morning America Show, Demi Moor shared her painful childhood memory of when she was raped at 15 years of age. She said that one day she returned home and saw an old man waiting for her who also had the key to her apartment. She writes in her memoir that the man claimed to have bought her by giving $500 to Moore’s mother. Describing the rape, Moor writes, “It was rape. And a devastating betrayal, revealed by the man’s question, “How does it feel to be wh**ed by your mother for $500?”

On being asked whether Moore believed that her mother accepted the money and sold her off to her acquaintance, Moore told Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America Show that her mother did “give him the access” and “put her in the harm’s hand.” Though, she is convinced that it would not have been a straightforward transaction and her mother did not accept the $500.

In the memoir she writes, “I remember using my fingers, the small fingers of a child, to dig the pills my mother had tried to swallow, out of her mouth,” Besides, she also said that her mother used to take her to the bars so that men would notice them.

In the memoir, Moore further describes her childhood which was spent with her parents who were fighting alcoholism and poor mental condition. She said at the Good Morning Show that her mother had tried to commit suicide for the first time when Moore was just 12-years-old. This was a “life-changing moment” for her that completely ruined her childhood. Overwhelmed by the distressing environment at home, Moore dropped out of her high school. While still a teenager, she began signing in for acting auditions and left her mother’s home. She also revealed her bad addiction to drugs and cocaine as a teenager, much like her parents. The memoir also talks about her battle with her drugs addiction. She writes how she went to rehab in the mid-80s to get over her drugs and drinks addictions. She lost her mother in 1998.

The struggles and devastating downfalls were not finished in Moore’s life. Moore had risen to fame in the 1980s with her wonderful roles in movies like Blame It On Rio and St Elmo’s Fire. Her first appearance as an actor was in the 1990 romantic thriller Ghost. The life again turned its path towards distress when in 2012 her marriage with Ashton Kutcher broke up. Her children had stopped talking to her and she gained 102 pounds of weight. It was a difficult period of her life that affected her emotionally and physically. According to the New York Times, she collapsed at a party after smoking cannabis and nitrous oxide.
