Actor Deepika Padukone introduces Amitabh Bachchan as her co-star in the forthcoming film, The Intern. The veteran actor has been roped in to play the role initially to be portrayed by the late actor Rishi Kapoor.
Deepika Padukone, who will be essaying the role of the female lead in the film, welcomed Bachchan to join the team with a social media post. She took to Instagram on Monday to express her eagerness to collaborate with the celebrated actor once again. Padukone addressed the actor as her “most special co-star” in the Instagram post.
“What an absolute honour to be collaborating with one of my most special co-star again! Welcoming @amitabhbachchan to the Indian adaptation of #TheIntern,” the caption read.

Amitabh Bachchan also took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to share the news. “One more time .. Indian Adaptation of #TheIntern,” he wrote.

The actors- Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan- have previously starred in Shoojit Sircar directorial Piku, which also featured late Indian actor Irrfan Khan.

The Intern is an Indian adaptation of the Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway starrer Hollywood movie of the same name. The film was directed, written and produced by Nancy Meyers.
The Hindi remake of the film is helmed by Amit Sharma who previously directed Badhai Ho and is currently working on the Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan, a sports biopic. The project was earlier postponed due to unavoidable reasons.
Previously, Rishi Kapoor was roped to play the character played by Robert de Niro. However, after the demise of the actor, his contemporary, Amitabh Bachchan was re-casted for the role.
Speaking of the forthcoming film, Deepika Padukone said in a statement to PTI, “The Intern is an intimate, relationship-driven film, set in and around the workplace; a story that I believe is very important to the current social and cultural environment”.
The film project is backed by Deepika Padukone and Sunir Khetrapal. The release date of The Intern is yet to be announced.
