Deepika Padukone will not be a part of the launch of her upcoming film Project K at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) due to the ongoing strike by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA) in the US.
As a member of SAG-AFTRA, she will have to give the eagerly-awaited Project K event a miss. The film's first glimpse was supposed to be unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, but due to the circumstances, Deepika Padukone's presence won't be possible.
Deepika Padukone made her Hollywood debut in 2017 with the film XXX: Return of Xander Cage, in which she starred opposite Vin Diesel. Earlier this year, at the 95th Academy Awards, she had the honour of introducing Naatu Naatu, the Best Original Song Oscar-winner from SS Rajamouli's blockbuster film RRR. Her presence at the prestigious awards ceremony further solidified her international recognition and acclaim.
Deepika Padukone Skips Project K Launch
According to the news agency PTI, an industry insider has revealed that Deepika Padukone will miss the launch event of her upcoming film, Project K, at the San Diego Comic-Con. This decision comes as she adheres to the guidelines set by SAG-AFTRA for actors amid the ongoing strike, which commenced last week. The union has specified that actors cannot provide promotional or publicity services, including appearances at conventions like the San Diego Comic-Con. As a responsible member of SAG-AFTRA, Deepika Padukone will not be attending the event, following the regulations set forth by the union.
Deepika Padukone is not the only Indian celebrity showing support for the Hollywood actors' union during the ongoing strike. Recently, actor Priyanka Chopra also expressed her solidarity by sharing a post on Instagram. The post featured a poster that read 'SAG-AFTRA Strong,' and Priyanka captioned it with a powerful message, stating, "I stand with my union and colleagues. In solidarity, we build a better tomorrow."
During San Diego Comic-Con on July 20, co-stars Prabhas and Kamal Haasan will unveil the official title, trailer, and release date of the film Project K. The first-ever Indian film to debut at the SDCC, Project K, directed by Nag Ashwin, promises an exciting glimpse into India's vibrant culture and the world of science fiction. The star-studded cast includes Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, and Disha Patani, among others.
