The Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah starrer Darlings is a black comedy-drama film that was released on August 5. Darlings is available on the over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform Netflix.
The dark comedy Darlings stars Alia Bhatt as Badrunissa ‘Badru’ Shaikh, Shefali Shah as her mother Shamshunissa, Vijay Varma as her husband Hamza, and Roshan Mathew as Zulfi. The plot revolves around Badru who decides to enact revenge on her abusive husband for the years of cruelty she has suffered.
Bhatt’s character Badru kidnaps her own husband with the help of her mother and holds him hostage as the police close in on her. The trailer showed the mother-daughter duo as they go to the police station to report that Badru’s husband Hamza is a missing person. They enlist the help of Zulfi played by Roshan Mathew
The film explores the lives of the mother-daughter duo played by Bhatt and Shah as they try to find their place in the city of Mumbai and seek love and courage. Bhatt and Shah try to navigate hiding Hamza from the police as Badru enacts her revenge.
The film Darlings marks Jasmeet K Reen’s directorial debut, she also served as a dialogue writer. Parveez Sheik served as a co-writer and dialogue writer and Vijay Maurya also served as a dialogue writer.
The film marks Alia Bhatt’s debut production under the banner of Eternal Sunshine Productions. Gauri Khan also served as a producer of the film under Red Chillies Entertainment and Gaurav Verma also serves as the film’s producer.
Darlings Release Time
Darlings was released by OTT streaming platform Netflix on August 5 and was released globally at 12 a.m. It was initially planned for a theatrical release but in February 2022, the film’s distribution rights were acquired by Netflix India. The film was released exclusively on Netflix.
The principal photography began in July 2021 and wrapped up in September 2021.
The official teaser Darlings was released on July 5 and the official trailer for the film was released on July 25. A launch event was also held in support of the film.
