Alia Bhatt's 'Darlings' Headed Straight To OTT, Release Expected Soon

Alia Bhatt starrer Darlings chose to ditch the silver screens and head straight to the OTT release.

Darlings marks the second collaboration of Alia Bhatt with Shah Rukh Khan, post their movie Dear Zindagi. However, Alia Bhatt is taking on multiple roles, as actor and producer in this movie. Marking her debut as a producer, Alia Bhatt's production house, Eternal Sunshine Production will be co-producing with Red Chillies Entertainment along with Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma. This movie is directed by Jasmeet. K.Reen.

Vishal Bharadwaj will act as music composer with widely known lyricist, Gulzar.

Darlings Netflix

An official announcement of the OTT Release on Netflix has been put out today. Alia Bhatt took to Instagram to confirm the same with a video captioned-'Hey, darlings. See you soons'.  The film features a stellar cast with Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah, playing mother-daughter along with Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew. The film is said to be a dark comedy based on the complex nature of a mother-daughter relationship.

Darlings Headed Straight To OTT: A Collaboration of Crores?

Earlier reports stated that Darlings has been sold to Netflix for a hefty sum of Rs. 80 Crores. This makes the movie one of the biggest deals with a female lead, marking yet another achievement for Alia Bhatt. It is revealed that Darlings took the OTT route because the creators of the movie thought that the dark-comedy theme of the film will receive a wider and better audience on OTT, than if it does a theatrical run.

The crew reportedly completed shooting in August 2021 and the movie is currently under post-production work. Netflix emerged lucky in gaining exclusive streaming rights in this battle among OTT platforms.

Talking more about the collaboration Director Jasmeet K Reen stated, “I couldn’t have asked for a better feature film debut—working with a pool of versatile and talented actors has been an absolute pleasure. I am delighted that Red Chillies and Eternal Sunshine are taking the film across the globe with Netflix.”

Producer turned Actor Alia Bhatt also spoke about her upcoming venture stating-“Darlings holds a very special place in my heart, it’s my first film as a producer that too with Red Chillies. We are very proud and happy how the film has shaped up and we hope it will entertain and engage audiences the world over.”
