Actor Regina Cassandra, known for her roles across regional cinema, has also proved herself in the last few years in the Hindi media landscape with spectacular performances in Farzi and Rocket Boys 2. The actor has now added one more achievement to her goodie bag, as she joins the Democratic Sangha as a co-founder and leads an empowering initiative for rural women there.
"There's just something about the feeling of community..." Cassandra expresses her emotions as she stands next to four inspiring figures in her Instagram Post.
Regina Cassandra's Purpose To Join Democratic Sangha
Regina co-held a session with a gynaecologist on this topic
The first session of the flagship rural women's leadership program pulled gathering at the Chalkiguda village in Telangana. Cassandra co-held a session with reputed gynaecologist Dr Prajwala Addagatla. They talked to rural women and enlightened them about menstrual hygiene and reproductive health. Topics that were to date a little foreign to them.
What was Regina's calling to join the Sangha?
"I feel there are a lot of ways we can give back to society. Chaitanya MRSK came to me with the idea of Democratic Sangha and it really resonated with my believes," she says when asked about her motivation to become a philanthropist and get on board with the program.
She also feels that Sanghas promotes culture and community. They are an embodiment of Democracy. "Democratic Sangha, a non-profit, non-partisan social reform organisation, aims to promote the principles of democracy.
She further talks with passion about the three focus areas of the sangha. "Women's Participation, Civic Education, Elections and Voting."
The legacy of the Sangha
It is also worthy to note the legacy of the Democratic Sangha which in its first year of establishment has 50+ women-led collectives in various districts of Telangana. Every leader from these collectives draws from the marginalised community. The Sangha aims to make them the drivers of change in their villages.
