Is The Coldplay Concert In India Cancelled?

Fans took to X to voice their concerns, however, it’s crucial to note that these are merely speculations at this stage. The summons for Hemrajani and the company’s technical head came on September 27, but they did not appear before the Economic Offences Wing (EOW). Hemrajani was summoned again on September 30 as the investigation continued.

The inquiry stems from a complaint filed by advocate Amit Vyas, who accused BookMyShow of enabling black market ticket sales through scalpers and third-party websites at inflated prices. In response, BookMyShow has denied any involvement with scalpers and cautioned fans to be vigilant against black market scams.

Coldplay was scheduled to make a highly anticipated comeback to India with concerts set for January 18 and 21, 2025. This event marked the band's first return since their performance at the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai in 2016.

As news broke, fans eager to secure tickets rushed to book their spots, while those unfamiliar with the band, or even uninterested in concerts, also joined the fray. Even content creators looking to capitalise on the trending topics got in on the action. The frenzy resulted in the ticketing site BookMyShow crashing just seconds after ticket sales opened on September 22, with over 13 million fans queued up online.

Moreover, tickets for Coldplay's upcoming Mumbai concerts vanished in no time on September 22. The cheapest tickets were priced at ₹2,500, while the most luxurious 'lounge' tickets reached ₹35,000. Within less than an hour of sales starting, resellers began offering tickets on social media and other online platforms at prices 10 to 20 times the original cost, with some listings exceeding ₹3.3 lakhs.

Ticketing Fiasco and Meme Storm

The ticketing process left many fans disheartened, prompting the announcement of a third show on January 21 on September 23. Unfortunately, those who still missed out took to social media to express their disappointment, with Karan Johar among them. Others resorted to sharing memes as a way to cope with their frustration over the ticketing debacle.
