There’s no denying the impact of the global influence of K-pop, but for those listeners who weren't paying attention during its ascent as a world-dominating genre, Coachella might have brought them into the fold.
On Saturday night, the group not only made history by becoming the first Korean act to headline Coachella, but all four members also brought their solo songs to the fore. Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé showed off impeccable choreography and a catalogue of massive hits
Jennie performed “You & Me,” her second single after “Solo,” while Jisoo performed her newly released solo debut “Flower.” Rosé and Lisa were next, with the former performing “Gone” and “On The Ground” from her solo project R, and the latter performing “Money,” reports Vulture.
“This is a dream come true. The reason why all four of us is because all of you,” Rosé said at one point as she remembered about performing at the Sahara stage in 2019.
Coachella 2023: Indian artists in the line-up
Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh surprised fans as he took over the Coachella stage on Saturday. He is also the first Punjabi singer to perform at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival. Donning a black kurta and tamba, Punjab’s traditional outfit, during his performance, the singer belted out his popular compositions with utmost gusto.
While Diljit shared a clip from his performance, American DJ Diplo also took to Instagram to share a clip of himself grooving to Diljit’s live act. Coachella’s official Twitter handle also shared a glimpse of Diljit’s performance with their fans.
Rapper Badshah and Dosanjh's Udta Punjab co-stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt also congratulated him on his historic moment. Other celebrities like Kriti Sanon, Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, and Sonam Kapoor, among others, also celebrated Dosanjh's epic performance.
This year, the festival will also witness other Indian artists like Raveena Aurora, Jai Paul and B.R.E.E.D - Ritesh D'Souza and Tara Mae in the line-up. Pakistani singer and composer Ali Sethi whose song Pasoori has created a global sensation will also be a part of the festival, according to the BBC.
