The trailer for the upcoming film Chup, starring Sunny Deol, Pooja Bhatt, Dulquer Salmaan, and Shreya Dhanwanthary, is out today. The movie billed as a romantic psychological thriller, pays homage to Guru Dutt and his 1959 masterpiece Kaagaz Ke Phool.
Directed by R. Balki, the psychological thriller sees Sunny Deol investigating a serial killer who is peculiar in that he carves stars into the corpses of his victims while they are being murdered. Film critics are his intended targets, and as they are brutally murdered, a rating is inscribed on their forehead.
Chup Trailer
The trailer starts with Deol saying, "So we have a new kind of serial murderer, who is giving stars to the people who give other stars, the critics." After that, the trailer cuts to romantic scenes between Dulquer Salmaan and Shreya Dhanwanthary and a man who has been killed with a single star engraved on his head.
The trailer also depicts Guru Dutt's depression following the negative reviews of his movie Kagaz Ke Phool by critics. A man is then heard saying, "A film is a director’s baby. Kisse ke bacche ka rape kaise kar sakte ho? " Pooja Bhatt emphasises the film’s point and message, "You critics are killers." Moreover, the odd, melancholy melodies from Guru Dutt's Pyaasa keep viewers on edge and intensify the drama in the trailer. Watch the trailer ">here.
The movie was announced last year on the death anniversary of the iconic director, Guru Dutt. Chup, according to Balki, is "an ode to the sensitive artist."
