Actor Chrisann Pereira, who was released by Sharjah authorities after being implicated in a drug case, has returned to Mumbai, an official said on Thursday. She will meet Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and other senior police officials later in the day, he said.

Actor Chrisann Pereira, who was arrested in the UAE after allegedly being framed in a drugs case, has returned to Mumbai, an official said on Thursday. Pereira, who was seen in Mahesh Bhatt's movie Sadak 2, was apprehended at the Sharjah airport on April 1 after a small quantity of a drug was found concealed in a memento. She was allegedly asked to hand it over to someone in the UAE.

- Two men had allegedly cheated the 27-year-old actor by planting drugs on her and sending her to Sharjah under the pretext of an 'audition' while promising her a role in a Hollywood web series, reports Press Trust of India.
- After her arrest, the accused - Ravi Bobhate and Anthony Paul - allegedly demanded Rs 80 lakh from her mother to rescue her, the official said. Her mother then approached the Mumbai Police for help who arrested the duo and booked them for cheating.
- The Mumbai Crime Branch later found out that the actor was allegedly framed by Anthony Paul, who runs a bakery, in revenge after a fight over a dog. Initial investigation revealed that Anthony's sister had a fight with the actor's mother over a dog. Both of them live in the same building. The police suspect the actor was allegedly made a drug mule over the same issue.
- "He gave the trophy by hiding ganja and poppy seeds in it so that he could be caught there. After she landed, he called the Sharjah airport and told the officials that she was carrying drugs," police said.

- Chrisann's brother Kevin Pereira shared a video on Instagram that showed their mother talking to the 27-year-old actor over a video call after Chrisann's release from the Sharjah prison.
- "Chrisann is SET FREE!!! She will be in India in the next 48 hours," Kevin wrote sharing the video on Instagram. The actor is in tears as her mother and other family members talk to her, the video shows. "You are free. This is amazing," says her mother Pramila Pereira.
