Chris Harrison who recently stepped away from his role as host in The Bachelor apologised to Rachel Lindsay in an interview with Good Morning America and revealed that his leave from the show is not a permanent exit. Harrison stated that “I plan to be back. I want to be back. This interview is not the finish line. There is much more work to be done.”
Harrison had stepped away from his role on The Bachelor after an interview with Lindsay, ex-contestant and the franchise’s first black Bachelorette. Harrison apologised for “speaking in a manner that perpetuates racism” and announced that he was stepping aside from his role in the franchise. Lindsay stated that she felt he made the right decision and was harassed by fans that believed she was responsible for Harrison’s exit. The harassment and hateful comments led to Lindsay deleting her Instagram.
Harrison once again apologised to the Rachel Lindsay and the black community for his words. He stated that he is “not a victim” and is committed to making changes for himself and the franchise. “I made a mistake and I own that,” he said. “Racism, oppression, these are big dynamic problems and they take serious work. I am committed to that work.”
Harrison has also been working with race educator and as a result he’s taken “full accountability” for his harmful actions. He also stated that he is going to educate himself and learn from the black community by listening.
