Chadwick Boseman's wife Simone Ledward delivers an emotional speech after the late actor's win at Golden Globes 2021: Late actor Chadwick Boseman won the Best Actor award in Drama category at 2021 Golden Globes. His award, for his performance in Netflix's Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was received by his widow Simone Ledward. In an emotional acceptance speech, Leward imagined what Boseman would have said after he won the award if he were alive.
Simone Ledward thanked Boseman’s family and collaborators, saying, "He would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices.”
Ledward further added, "He would say something beautiful. Something inspiring. Something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells you you can, that tells you to keep going, that calls you back to what you were meant to be doing."
Simone Ledward said that while she didn't have her husband's words, "but we have to take all the moments to celebrate those we love. She concluded her speech by directly addressing her husband, saying, "And honey, you keep ’em coming. Thank you.”
Chadwick succumbed to health complications from colon cancer on 28 August 2020 at the age of 43. He had kept his health condition a secret. His wife Simone Ledward has been accepting awards being given to him posthumously.
While accepting a tribute award at the Gotham Awards earlier this year Ledward said that Boseman was the most honest person she had ever met. "He actively searched for it, in himself, those around him and the moment. The truth can be a very easy thing for the self to avoid. But if one does not live in truth, then it’s impossible to live life,” she added further.
She went on to add that she was accepting the award with pride as it reflected the impact her husband had made in the industry and also the world.
