It takes a lot of strength and courage to end a relationship, especially when you are a notable personality. However, celebrity divorce cases do exist and the Aesha-Shikhar aren't the first celebrity couple getting separated. Over the years, we have seen several celebrity divorce cases that have shocked the public. Below is a list of five.

Five celebrity divorce cases we found hard to believe

1. Aesha Mukerji-Shikhar Dhawan

Kickboxer Aesha Mukerji was previously married to an Australian businessman and had two daughters with him. The duo separated after their marital lives started facing problems. She got married to cricketer Shikhar Dhawan in 2012. Announcing her second divorce, she said in her Instagram post that she thought divorce to be a bad word until she became a two time divorcee. When she went through it for the first time, she was scared and felt that she was letting everyone down. She blamed herself for being selfish.

However, she gradually realised that the fear and the meaning she gave to the word 'divorce' was her doing. So she redefined it the way she wanted to see and experience it. Divorce now meant that she was choosing herself and not settling and sacrificing her life for the sake of a marriage. In her opinion, she has had amazing relationships that have taught her great lessons to carry forward in new relationships. She went on to say that though we may do our best and try our best, things may not work out sometimes and that's okay. She felt she became stronger and more resilient than she ever thought.

"In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love," the couple said in a joint statement. They further continued, that they "would like to begin a new chapter" in their lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents to their son Azad and family for each other. They began a "planned separation" some time ago but made the announcement when they felt comfortable to formalise the arrangement.

In the statement, they confirmed that they would nurture and raise their son together. They would also continue to work as collaborators on films, Paani foundation and other projects they felt passionate about. Finally, the couple thanked their friends and family for understanding the evolution in their relationship. They said they wouldn't have been able to take the leap without their support. Rao and Khan hoped that just like them, their well wishers would look at the separation as a start to a new journey and not an end.

3. Mehr Jessia -Arjun Rampal

Actor Arjun Rampal and former Miss India cum supermodel Mehr Jessia were married for two decades. They made the announcement in a joint statement. "After a 20-year-long beautiful journey filled with love and beautiful memories, we would like to share, that all journeys have different paths," they said.
