The accident took place on April 20 around 4:30 p.m. at Nirsa Bazar on the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway 2.
CCTV Footage Reveals Fatal Accident Involving Pankaj Tripathi's Brother-In-Law
In the CCTV footage, the car can be observed speeding down the road before crashing into the divider, all occurring in less than a minute. The couple was en route to West Bengal from their village in Gopalganj, Bihar, passing through Jharkhand. Tripathi's brother-in-law, Rakesh Tiwari, was reportedly behind the wheel when the accident occurred. According to the police, he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a divider in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, on the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway-2.

The footage reveals the severity of the crash as the car collides with a divider near Nirsa Market Chowk. The aftermath of the accident shows the devastating consequences. Pankaj Tripathi's sister Sarita, who was also in the car, was swiftly taken to the hospital by locals along with Rakesh. Unfortunately, Rakesh was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Sarita sustained a fractured leg and multiple other injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanbad.
Rajesh, employed by the Indian Railways and stationed in Chittaranjan, was reportedly returning to his workplace from Kamalpur in Gopalganj, Bihar, when the incident occurred. The tragic accident occurred less than a year after the actor's father's passing. In August 2023, Pankaj's father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari, passed away at the age of 99 in their village of Gopalganj.
Originally from Gopalganj, Bihar, the recipient of the National Award pursued his education at the National School of Drama before relocating to Mumbai in 2004. Pankaj Tripathi's most recent appearance was in the film Murder Mubarak.
