Seventeen-year-old Nitanshi Goel, known for her lead role as Phool Kumari in Laapataa Ladies, made her debut at the 78th Cannes Film Festival this year. As one of the youngest Indian actors to walk the red carpet, Nitanshi turned heads with two powerful looks, each rooted deeply in Indian tradition and creativity.

For her first red carpet appearance, Nitanshi wore a custom-made black and gold gown by Jade by Monica and Karishma. The gown, made with sheer fabric, featured traditional Kasab embroidery and delicate macrame, combining old-world charm with a modern silhouette. The outfit had a grand structure with a long train, adding to the red carpet drama.
She paired the look with a sleek hairstyle and minimal makeup. Accessories were kept simple, a gold choker and earrings that allowed the detailed gown to shine. Her styling brought out the elegance of Indian craftsmanship on a global stage.
For her second red carpet walk, Nitanshi wore a custom pre-draped ivory saree with a modern twist. The saree featured a flowing drape with a long trail and was beautifully detailed with soft embroidery, 3D floral patterns, and subtle paisley designs. The blouse stood out with pearl and beadwork, designed to reflect the elegance of vintage Indian styles.
But what truly stole the spotlight was her hair accessory, a string of pearls that doubled as a tribute to legendary women in Indian cinema. Tiny picture frames were woven into the pearls, each carrying portraits of iconic actresses like Madhubala, Rekha, Sridevi, Waheeda Rehman, Nutan, Hema Malini, and Vyjayanthimala.
In conversations with Brut, she opened up about many “firsts,” including her first audition, first celebrity crush, and early memories from filming Laapataa Ladies.
Several Indian celebrities are set to attend the 78th Cannes Film Festival. Among those expected are Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karan Johar, Janhvi Kapoor, Ishan Khatter, Jacqueline Fernandez, Aditi Rao Hydari, Neeraj Ghaywan, and Vishal Jethwa. This year’s festival runs from May 13 to May 24.
