Camila Cabello's Debut Film Cinderella To Skip Theatres

Camila Cabello Cinderella film to have OTT release: Singer Camila Cabello is all ready for her debut feature film. The Kay Cannon-directed musical Cinderella from Sony Pictures will however skip the theatres due to COVID-19 pandemic and have an OTT release instead. Amazon Studios recently acquired rights for Cinderella while the premiere date hasn't been announced yet, it is being said that the film will start streaming later this year.

Cinderella, written and directed by former 30 Rock writer Kay Cannon, will be musical retelling of the classic fairytale by the same name. According to Deadline, it will integrate “pop songs from contemporary artists”.

While Billy Porter will be portraying Cinderella’s fairy godparent, Idina Menzel has been roped in to play her evil stepmother. The cast also comprises Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert, Pierce Brosnan as King Rowan and Minnie Driver as Queen Beatrice.

This is singer-songwriter Cabello’s first feature film and she is contributing to the music of the project as well.

Cinderella had been set for a theatrical debut in July but is now set for an OTT release due to the pandemic. The new age upcoming version will feature original songs, inspired from the 1950 animated Disney film which popularised the songs A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes and Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo. Cabello and Menzel will sing for this version.

Talking about picking Cinderella as her acting debut following her successful music career, Cabello previously described the remake as “funny” and “empowered.” She said that it was one of those things that felt like God handcrafted it for her. “I just couldn’t say no. It’s honestly a dream for me. And also a little bit terrifying,” said Cabello.

23-year-old Cabello is a well-know name in the pop-music industry, courtsey hit songs like Havana and Señorita. The American-Cuban singer has won various awards for her work, including Latin Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards.

She was also named Vogue India’s Global Youth Influencer of the Year in 2020. She is in a relationship with singer Shawn Mendes. Last month, she had shared an affectionate snap of boyfriend Mendes kissing her on the cheek. "I love my baby!" she wrote in the Instagram post's caption. The two recording artists have been dating since July of 2019 and have been quarantining together in Miami.
