71-year-old Jenner, a former Olympic gold medallist, is now running for governor in California in the upcoming recall election. A recall election is a procedure to remove a sitting elected representative via voting before their term is officially over. "I would secure the wall. We can't have a state, we can't have a country without a secure wall," Jenner said in a recent interview. This was her first major television interview since declaring her candidacy nearly two weeks ago. She is campaigning against California Governor Gavin Newsom.

"You have two questions here," she said, clarifying her stance on illegal immigration into the United States, “One is stopping people from coming in illegally into the state. And then the second question is, what do we do with the people that are here? We are a compassionate country, OK? We are a compassionate state. Some help, I mean, some people we’re going to send back, OK? No question about that. But I have met some of the greatest immigrants into our country."

Earlier this week, Jenner made headlines when she told TMZ in an interview that she's against transgender girls competing in female sports. Jenner argued that banning participation of transgender student-athletes in girls' competitive sports will be a "question of fairness". The state has been safeguarding transgender rights, including allowing a law protecting the right of transgender students to play sports that correspond with their gender identity.

Now in her most recent interview, Jenner said that as a transwoman, "I think role models are extremely important for young people. Trans issues, people struggle with big time, our suicide rate is nine times higher than the general public. And for me to be a role model, for them, to be out there. I am running for governor of the state of California, who would ever thunk that? We’ve never even had a woman governor.”

On April 23, Caitlyn Jenner announced her decision to run for the post of governor in the state of California via Twitter. Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete further elaborated on her website, "California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality.”

Three other Republican candidates- John Cox, a businessman, Doug Ose, a former US congressman and Kevin Faulconer, the former mayor of San Diego are in the race for the post that Democrat leader Newsom currently holds. Read more on Jenner's candidacy here.
