Britney Spears conservatorship LA Court: American singer Britney Spears is going to personally address the Los Angeles court dealing with her long-running conservatorship in June as a judge agreed to it on Tuesday.
Thirty-nine-year-old Spears has been under conservatorship since the year 2008, but she has not publicly commented on the legal arrangement and rarely takes part in court hearings. Her personal and financial affairs, security, medical treatment and career is controlled by a court-appointed advisor.
Spears's lawyer Samuel Ingham told the court on Tuesday that his client would like to address the court directly in a hearing, and has requested for it to be done on an expedited basis.
The judge set the date for Spears to speak to the court on June 23, although the matter about which Spears plans to address the court is still not known.
After the pop star was hospitalised in 2008 for psychiatric treatment following a widely publicised breakdown, her father was appointed as her conservator by the court.
Spears made it clear the previous year through her lawyer that she no longer wants her father to be involved in her affairs. Previously a bid was made in August 2020 to remove her father from this position but it was failed. In another hearing that happened on Tuesday, her request to replace him by someone else was postponed to July without any discussion.
Last month, the lawyer of Jamie Spears, said in an interview that the pop star never requested the termination of the legal agreement.
In 2019, Spears pulled out of a Las Vegas concert residency and entered a mental health facility for a brief amount of time.
With the release of a television documentary in the month of February this year, new scrutiny related to the case was brought to light which led to the #FreeBritney movement by her fans.
The supporters of #FreeBritney rallied outside the court on Tuesday, April 27 and believe that Spears is being kept, prisoner.
