Meet These 5 Women Starred In Alankrita Shrivastava's Bombay Begums

Bombay Begums Cast: Bombay Begums is the story of five women across generations. As per Netflix, they are connected by "desire, ambition, vulnerability and struggle for power."

As evident in the trailer, the series traces their journey of fighting hurdles in careers and relationships, challenging social norms at the same time. This Netflix original series is all set to release on Mar 8. It is created and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and has some four other female leads. Read ahead to know more about the women in the Bombay Begums cast.

1. Pooja Bhatt as Rani

Pooja Bhatt made her debut as an actor at the age of 17 in 1989 in Daddy, a TV film directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin was her silver screen debut. Bhatt was seen in several bold shoots like Stardust. Some of her most well known films are Sadak, Junoon, Jaanam, Border and so on. After her appearance in the English language film Everybody Says I Am Fine, she started focussing on film production and direction. Her latest directorial venture was the 2012 Sunny Leone starrer Jism 2. Bhatt made a comeback in acting with Sadak 2 (2020), a sequel to the 1991 hit film Sadak. She will now be seen as the lead character Rani in Bombay Begums.

2. Shahana Goswami as Fatima

Shahana Goswami always wanted to become an actor. She made her debut in the movie Yun Hota Hai Kya directed by Naseeruddin Shah. Goswami also appeared in a small role in Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. While still a college student, she worked in the Arjun Bali directorial Ru Ba Ru along with Randeep Hooda. Later, she signed Abhishek Kapoor's Rock on. It was in this movie that she got her big break in the role of Debbie. She won several awards for her performance, the most prestigious one being The Filmfare Best Actress (Critics) award. Goswami became the  first actor in a supporting role to receive the honour. We will shortly see her as one of the leading women in Bombay Begums.

3. Amruta Subhash as Lily

Amruta Subhash is an actor who works in Marathi and Hindi films, theatre and television. A Graduate from the National School of Drama, she won the National Film Award for the Best Supporting Actress in the 2015 Marathi film Astu and the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actress for Gully Boy. Subhash is also a trained classical singer and has sung for various Marathi films. Some of her latest works include Selection Day, a Netflix Original series, Sacred Games Season 2 and Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai. She will be seen as one of the five women in Bombay Begums in the role of Lily.

4. Plabita Borthakur as Ayesha

Plabita Borthakur is an actor, singer and artist from Assam. She made her Bollywood debut in P.K. as Jaggu's (Anushka Sharma) sister. She played the role of Rehana Abidi in Alankrita Shrivastava's 2016 dark comedy Lipstick Under My Burkha. Borthakur received rave reviews for her performance in the film. She was also seen in the critically acclaimed Amazon Prime Video web series Breathe: Into The Shadows. Plabita Borthakur plays the role of Ayesha in Bombay Begums.

5. Aadhya Anand as Shai

Aadhya Anand has previously been seen in the 2016 movie Utter 2016: One Hour To Daylight. It is a social drama based in Singapore where the inhabitants are divided by cultural and social tensions. Anand is now all set to play the role of Shai in Bombay Begums.

Apart from the above mentioned, Bombay Begums also casts Rahul Bose, Manish Chaudhari, Vivek Gomber, and Danish Hussain.
