Bollywood Biopics In 2022: Biopics on iconic Indian females released in the past have done very well. Films like Mary Kom, Shakuntala Devi, Neerja did a great job of bringing the stories of inspiring women to the masses. Here's a list of Bollywood biopics in 2022 that you should not miss.
- Gangubai Kathiawadi
Gangubai Kathiawadi was an Indian criminal, don, sex worker and businesswoman from Kathiawad in India. Throughout the 1960s, she was an influential figure in Mumbai and operated a sex racket in the Hera Mandi red light district. Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt will be playing her role. The film is slated to release on February 18, 2022.
2. Shabaash Mithu
Shabaash Mithu is based on the life and achievements of Mitali Dorai Raj, the former ODI captain of the Indian women’s cricket team. Mithali Raj, who will be essaying her character in the movie, said in an interview, "Mithali Raj is an excellent player who has made records for her 50s and has also surpassed the 10,000-run mark becoming the highest scorer in women’s cricket. She is one of the most experienced women cricket players so there is a lot of pressure to play her on-screen". The film is directed by Rahul Dholakia, written by Priya Aven and is being produced by Viacom 18 Studios.
It will release on February 4, 2022.
3. Chakdah Express
Anushka Sharma was initially roped in to play the role of Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami in her biopic titled Chakdah Express. As per latest reports, she has dropped out of the film and she been replaced by Bulbbul actress Triptii Dimri. Anushka Sharma will only produce the film. She is co-producing the film along with Sony Pictures India. Jhulan Goswami’s biopic will showcase her journey starting from hometown in Nadia district to reaching The Lord’s where India shone in the women’s World Cup final. The final date of the release is not known yet.
Talks around PV Sindhu's biopic are also going on. As per some reports, Deepika Padukone has been roped in to play her character. The date of release of the film hasn't been announced yet.
