Blackpink singer Rosé recently released her highly anticipated solo album R. The Korean pop artist made her solo debut with the project lead by her single On The Ground. Rosé, a member of the all-female South Korean artists group, released her new solo track on March 12.
The Korean-Australian artist garnered 41.6million views with On The Ground and set the record of YouTube views in 24 hours by a solo K-pop artist. She broke the record previously set by Korean singer PSY a decade ago with his song Gangnam Style, of 36 million views.
In addition, her latest single has topped the iTunes charts across 51 countries along with South Korea, reports KBS world. According to KBS world radio portal, the all-English song is considered to have hit the highest figure ever for a Korean female artist.
Rosé on her solo singles
As per reports, Rosé believes every song has a language that right for it and for her songs Gone and On The Ground, it was English. In Blackpink's online concert The Show, the singer performed on Gone, giving her fans a glimpse of her solo debut.
Speaking of her recently released track, the Korean idol said, “The reason I feel inclined to it, is because of how much it matches my life one-dimensionally. From when I was a trainee, I lived day to day, running towards my dreams".
“Once in a while, there are moments where I’d question my motives, and I think the lyrics express this really well. I think this is something to learn from as well,” she added.
On 16 March, Rosé performed an elaborate choreography on her new song on Jimmy Fallon's talk show The Tonight Show.
Earlier, she took to Instagram to share the news with her followers. Ahead of her album, the K-pop star will treat her fans with an online fan meet on 20 and 21 March. The event is supposed to include 20 fans, conducted in both English and Korean, who can buy their tickets from KTown4u.
Rosé makes TikTok debut
Besides the fan meet, the Korean pop star made her TikTok debut to promote her track. An account named 'roses_are_rosies' was recently opened on the video-sharing app, which the fans speculated belonged to the K-pop idol. Today, Rosé posted a video titled "it’s really me" confirming the anticipations. In the video, she was heard saying, "Hi guys, so this is my real TikTok. Bye". Her TikTok video has reached over 27 million views in 12 hours.
According to Straits Times, the other members of Blackpink- Jisoo and Lisa- also have been working on their solo albums respectively. Last year, the K-pop idol group collaborated with Selena Gomez for the song Ice-cream which crossed over 500 million views on YouTube.
