Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Bipasha Basu welcomed their daughters, Raha and Devi, in November 2022. When both actors made their first public appearances after giving birth, it sparked widespread discussion.
Alia Bhatt was praised for her rapid post-pregnancy weight loss and radiant appearance, while Bipasha Basu faced hurtful trolling and fat-shaming regarding her post-maternity weight gain.
Both actors, Alia Bhatt and Bipasha Basu, have been refreshingly open and candid about their pregnancy journeys, including the challenges they faced. They have also been vocal about their postpartum experiences, sharing their thoughts openly.
Moreover, after Alia Bhatt made her first public appearance following childbirth, her fans were overjoyed to see her looking content and in good health. They were impressed by her post-pregnancy "glow" and evident weight loss, leading to discussions in the comments section. Nevertheless, some comments criticised the transformation, suggesting that it appeared unnatural and that she shouldn't feel compelled to change her body drastically for the sake of her work.
In response to the chatter, Bhatt addressed the pressure that new mothers often feel to lose weight after childbirth in an interview. She shared that, as films are a visual medium, looking appealing is a consideration, leading her to embark on her own weight loss journey. Bhatt also shared that she empathises with the feelings of wanting to regain one's pre-pregnancy shape.
Bipasha Basu Trolled For Postpartum Body
On the other hand, Bipasha Basu, once known as one of Bollywood's fittest actors, faced intense trolling for her postpartum body after her first appearance following childbirth. However, she has taken her time and is now beginning her post-pregnancy weight-loss transformation journey, prioritising her well-being and taking a gradual approach.
Although I haven't personally experienced pregnancy or childbirth, from reading and keeping up with social media, it is quite evident that the journey of pregnancy and postpartum can be quite challenging, and it is different for every woman.
In both situations, it's crucial to acknowledge that each person's body is unique and that the post-pregnancy journey can differ greatly from one individual to another. Whether a woman belongs to a particular industry or not, pregnancy brings significant changes to women's bodies, and the process of post-pregnancy weight loss or gain can be influenced by various factors.
Questioning their journey and subjecting them to trolling for their decisions is undeniably inhumane.
While social media allows people to comment and question almost everything, who gives the right to question a mother's post-pregnancy journey even if she’s an actor? Isn't it a decision that solely belongs to the mother herself?
As already mentioned, every woman's post-pregnancy journey is distinct, and it's unnecessary to engage in trolling or singling out one for praise while criticising another. Both have their challenges and triumphs and instead of passing judgement, it's best to let them be and avoid negative comments if there's nothing positive to contribute.
Instead, they should be respected and supported with kindness and understanding. Let us remember to uplift and celebrate the beautiful journey of motherhood and support all mothers in their individual paths.
