Ex-Bigg Boss Contestant and television actress Hina Khan body shamed Shilpa Shinde, her arch rival, and called her a ‘bhains’. Khan reached the finale of Big Boss 11 along with her nemesis, Shinde. Over the course of the season, the two actresses had several fights and arguments. During one such fight, Khan body-shamed Shinde and said, “Meri jaisi ban kar dikha Shilpa Shinde loser. Shakal hai nahi, akal hai nahi, bhainsi jaisi hai. Karegi kya?”
Why is body shaming so normal in India? Why do we need women to insult each other and shame them for weight, skin colour or confidence?
Hina had also insulted South Indian actresses when she spoke about rejecting offers for the South Indian film industry because she was asked to put on weight. She stated that, "South mein aise chahiye unhe bulging sab.” Her remarked was met with criticism and angered South Indian actresses like Hansika Motwani and Khushbu Sundar.
Bigg Boss is a controversial reality show, known to provide audiences with nasty fights and entertainment. Khan body-shaming Shinde is not the first incident of contestants on Bigg Boss body-shaming each other. Celebrities such as Arshi Khan, Rashami Desai, Shehnaaz Gill and others have been targeted over their physical appearance.
