'Cirkus' To 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo': Catch These Bollywood Big Budget Films Releasing In 2022

Be it Ashutosh Gowariker's Lagaan, Jodhaa Akbar or Karan Johar's Bombay Velvet, irrespective of their Box Office performances, these films have one thing in common: their budgets. These big-budget films, especially Gowariker's Lagaan, were definitely game-changers in the history of Bollywood. While the former film was celebrated because it dared to do something out of the box, Bombay Velvet tanked at the box office proving that cinema just does not thrive if one spends lavishly on the film.

During the pandemic, the film production had come to a halt before the governments gave the showbiz to start shooting again much later. However, a lot of the films from big production houses were kept on hold and their schedules were pushed further. Now that the COVID-19 cases have receded and there's no sign of it returning any time soon, filmmakers are gearing up to release their big-budget films at the Box Office.

Prithviraj

Based on the life of the legendary Rajput king and the last Hindu ruler of India, Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan, this movie is made on a budget of Rs. 300 Crores and stars Akshay Kumar in the role of the Emperor. The movie marks the Bollywood debut of Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar. The movie is set to release on June 3, 2022.

Brahmastra

Dharma Production's ambitious project, studded with a starry cast of Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna Akkineni will finally release on September 9, 2022. Directed by Ayan Mukherjee, the movie is made on a budget of Rs. 300 Crores and is a ">mythological thriller franchise.

Brahmastra (Indian Express)

Ponniyin Selvan (PS-I)

Starring Aishwarya Rai, South stars Vikram and Trisha Krishnan, PS-I is a period drama co-produced by Mani Ratnam. The movie is about the early life and adventures of the great Chola king Raja Raja Chola who ruled supremely in the Indian Ocean and South-East Asia. The movie is made with a budget of Rs. 500 Crore and will release on September 30, 2022.

Shamshera

Starring Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, this movie by Karan Malhotra is set to release on July 22, 2022. The movie, made with a budget of Rs. 150 Crores, will finally go on floors after a long delay. The story is about a dacoit tribe from 1800 that fights for independence from the British.

Laal Singh Chaddha

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Aamir Khan's much-anticipated movie ">Laal Singh Chaddha is all ready to release on August 11, 2022. The movie is the Hindi remake of the 1994 Hollywood film Forrest Gump and is made on a budget of Rs. 300 Crores. The story is about a man—who is likely on the Autism spectrum—who harbours only one wish: to reunite with his childhood love.

Rohit Shetty's Cirkus stars Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ranveer Singh in lead roles. Made with a budget of Rs. 180 Crores, the movie is about a 90's circus company operated by Ranveer's character that presents the life of its performers and draws a comparison to the circus of life. The movie is expected to release on July 15, 2022.

Liger

Starring Ananya Panday, Vijay Deverakonda, Ramya Krishnan and Ronit Roy, this upcoming sports drama is made with a budget of Rs. 170 Crores. the story is about the journey of a kickboxer who trains hard and becomes an expert in kickboxing and martial arts and takes part in an international competition to prove his worth.

Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali

Starring Salman Khan, Pooja Hegde, Shehnaz Gill and Venkatesh, this movie, made with a budget of Rs. 200 Crores, is expected to release on December 30, 2022. The movie is about three brothers who are really close to each other but the younger brother cannot get married as the eldest is still unmarried.

Ram Setu

Akshay Kumar, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Jacqueline Fernandez's Ram Setu are based on the Hindu Holy book The Ramayana and feature an archaeologist who explores the origin and existence of the epic bridge Ram Setu is known to be built by Lord Ram and his delegates while rescuing Goddess Sita. The movie is made with a budget of Rs. 200 Crores and is set to release on October 24, 2022.

Vikram Vedha

Starring Hrithik Roshan, Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf and Saif Ali Khan, this big-budget movie is the Hindi remake of the Tamil film of the same name. The movie is about a tough police officer chasing a tough gangster, both equally powerful. Inspired by the folktales of Baital Pachisi, the movie is set to release on September 30, 2022

Jug Jugg Jeeyo

This upcoming comedy-drama by Viacom18 Studios and Dharma Productions will release on June 24, 2022. The movie stars Anil Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Neetu Kapoor and Varun Dhawan in lead roles. The movie, which is made with a budget of Rs. 150 Crores, revolves around a Punjabi family and is based on family issues and yearnings.
