New Release Date For Ayushmann Khurrana's Socio-Political Thriller Anek

Anek new release date was dropped on social media by actor Ayushmann Khurrana on February 2. The film is his reunion with director Anubhav Sinha, with whom he worked on the critically acclaimed film Article 15. The announcement  for this collaboration was made last year and the film was supposed to release in March but the date has now been postponed.

The reason for the postponement of the date is unknown, but a lot of films like RRR, Radhe Shyam, Brahmastra have postponed their dates. The COVID-19 induced pandemic have changed the course for many films and a constant shuffle and rescheduling of dates is seen as the people involved with the film do not want to compromise on a theatrical release.

The film Anek was scheduled to release on March 31 this year. It is directed by Sinha and features Khurrana in the lead role. A socio-political thriller, where Khurrana plays the role of a Brahmin cop who tries to uncover the death of two Dalit girls.

Last year, on October 22, Khurrana had announced the project as his next film. In an Instagram post, he wrote, "Thrilled to reunite with @anubhavsinhaa for a character that pushed me out of my comfort zone & with #BhushanKumar as a support system. #Anek will usher in a different language of cinema. Mark the date for this socio-political thriller: 31.03.2022."

However today, the actor posted another intense-looking poster of the film where only his eyes are visible. This time announcing the postponement, he wrote, "It takes just ONE to make a difference. Time to unite as Ek (one)! Jeetega Kaun (Who will win)? Hindustan (India)! #Anek IN CINEMAS 13.05.2022 @anubhavsinha #BhushanKumar @BenarasM #KrishanKumar #ShivChahana #SagarShirgaonkar #DhrubDubey @TSeries #AnubhavSinha."

The film went on floors in February 2021 and started an extensive shoot in the Northeast region of India. India Today reported that this film is Sinha's most expensive and big-scale film to date and Khurrana will be playing the role of Joshua for the film.

The Times of India reported that Sinha while talking about the film said that it was a challenging film to write and make. They had shot the film through rough terrain and the takeaway was gratifying. "It was delightful to work with Ayushmann again who with his depiction of Joshua breathed life into the story."
