Ava DuVernay Addresses Lack Of Diversity In Golden Globes

Ava DuVernay is the first black woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Director for her work on the movie Selma.

In the wake of reports that focused on the lack of inclusivity regarding the Golden Globes, it was revealed that HFPA had no black members. DuVerny reacted to a tweet from The Hollywood reporter about a Los Angeles Times probe of the HFPA. The tweet read, “L.A. Times Reveals HFPA Has Zero Black Members, Raises New Questions About Ethics of Golden Globe Voters.”

DuVernay tweeted this is response-

Oscar-winning actor Regina King responded to DuVernay’s tweet with a gif that acknowledged the remark made by DuVernay.

The HFPA told the Time they were ‘committed to addressing the issue, which has the subject for scrutiny for black artists such as actors Zendaya and Delroy Lindo, and director Spike Lee.

Ava DuVernay is the first black woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Director for her work on the movie Selma. Her most notable works include Selma, A Wrinkle in Time, 13th, and When They See Us. DuVernay founded the African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement (AFFRM) in 2010. It is a company that distributes films that are made by or focus on black people. In 2015 the company rebranded itself under the name ARRAY and promised a new focus on women filmmakers as well.
