Recently another former Nickelodeon child artist Janette McCurdy released her memoir I'm Glad My Mom Died, which talks about her tough childhood and difficult relationship with her mom who passed away in 2013. McCurdy also revealed the disturbing experiences she had on the sets of various shows she did for the network. McCurdy is known for her role in iCarly and later did the spinoff Sam & Cat along with another show Victorious.

McCurdy several times in the memoir accuses an unnamed creator of the shows to have put her in uncomfortable situations while shooting. According to the reports the creator is assumed to be Dan Schneider. McCurdy says that she was often sexualised in instances like doing a photo shoot in a bikini during wardrobe fitting and making her redo on-screen kiss scenes multiple times even when she was visibly uncomfortable. She said, "terrified of being looked at as a sexual being" while describing her experiences. She even said that the accused creator gave her shoulder massages without her consent. Reportedly, Janette McCurdy also mentioned that when she left Nickelodeon, the network offered her an amount of $300,000 as hush money to not speak about her disturbing journey with them to the public but she refused it.

Ariana Grande sexualised and infantilised

In the shows Sam & Cat and Victorious, Ariana Grande had played the role of the character Cat Valentine. Along with the show Victorious, Nickelodeon also launched a website called The Slap that featured videos exclusively for the viewers, which were not a part of the broadcasted episodes. Among those videos, there was a category called Cat's Random Thoughts which featured Grande in vulnerable positions. All these episodes were written and directed by Schneider. The videos have been called outrightly sexual for a 16-year-old minor to do. She was seen sucking her fingers and toes and pouring water over herself and screaming, "I'm soaking wet".

One of the fans of the show tweeted, "everyone keeps bringing ariana grande for stan drama against jennette and idk why. let’s not forget, ariana is a victim herself from the creepiness of dan schneider. this is why she doesn’t talk about the role of cat valentine anymore. they sexualized and infantilized her."

Another person replied to the tweet thread, "This always makes me nauseous, imagine "directing" a teenager to do that stuff as a grown man". Grande hasn't spoken about this to the media so one of her followers tweeted saying, "This is absolutely disgusting. As an adult watching this right now you can tell EXACTLY what they were doing. I hope she speaks on it, people will definitely support her. But understand exactly why she doesn’t given how they treat people who do." The viewers always found the videos wrong as a netizen pointed out saying, "I always thought it was weird how many sexual undertones there was in the show."

Grande hasn't spoken anything against the network or the creator of the show, she even attended their 10th-anniversary celebration in 2020, according to the reports. Dan Schneider left the network in 2018 and in an interview with The New York Times denied the accusations about being verbally abusive towards his colleagues. He said the claims of sexualising the child actors were ridiculous and "the comedy was totally innocent." He added, "I wouldn’t have the long-term friendships and continued loyalty from so many reputable people if I’d mistreated my actors of any age, especially minors."
