Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande's Spot-On Method-Dressing For Wicked Premiere

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are bringing in "Wicked" for their film's premiere in London. The movie is slated to release in theatres on November 22.

Wicked (titled onscreen as Wicked: Part I) is a 2024 American epic musical fantasy film directed by Jon M. Chu. The movie is an adaption of the stage musical of the same name by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which in turn was loosely based on the 1995 novel of the same name. The film features the internationally acclaimed singer and pop icon, Ariana Grande, along with EGOT winner Cynthia Evro, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey, actor Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode and Peter Dinklage.

Sisterhood and Community

Most of the film was shot in London from 2022 to mid-2023. The film tells the untold story of the witches of Oz and the unlikely friendship between popular and privileged Glinda, played by Grande and the misunderstood young woman with unusual green skin, Elphaba, played by Evro. Both of them said they were "excited" that stories about witches are having a resurgence and "people really need a sisterhood and community".

Overpouring Love

The audience is equally thrilled, with positive reviews coming in from both the viewers and the critics. The users noted how Erivo’s soulful turn matches the captivating humour from Grande, with vivid crafts and a charming Bailey to also appreciate.

Method Dressing

Throughout the film’s promotional tour, the leading ladies have embraced this trend, with Grande in pink and Erivo in green or black ensembles. Ariana wore Vivienne Westwood at the Australian premiere of ‘Wicked’, referencing Billie Burke’s original Glinda in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (1939).

The Versace dress that Ariana Grande wore at the Wicked premiere in Mexico City is blue, pink & white - all at once. The eye perceives the different tones depending on the lighting. She pays homage to the 3 colours that Glinda has historically used.

Cynthia Erivo also took method dressing to another height in a custom Thom Browne. For the Mexico premiere, Cynthia’s look is the most witchy, while Ariana’s light-pink Versace gown almost looks as if it has an inflatable skirt, which is very Glinda-core.
