Anushka Sharma maternity clothes on sale: Bollywood actor-producer Anushka Sharma is raising awareness about embracing circular fashion. The new mother is using her time and platform to do her bit to promote sustainable sartorial choices. Sharma will back the initiative by putting up her favourite maternity clothes for an online sale, through a foundation.
She and her husband, cricketer Virat Kohli, welcomed their first child, Vamika, earlier this year.
The actor shared a video on Instagram about the initiative on Tuesday, in which she said, "'if even justone percent of pregnant women in urban India bought 1 piece of maternity clothing preloved over newly manufactured, EACH YEAR we can conservatively save about as much water as a person drinks in over 200 years!! (sic)"
The handpicked pieces Sharma has shared from her wardrobe will contribute to saving 2.5 lakh litres of water, raising awareness about a small behavioural change that can have a huge positive impact on the environment--embracing circular fashion. The initiative will go towards supporting maternal health. The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actor said in a statement that she wants to institutionalise a "circular economy" in the "fashion system". Speaking about her initiative, the 33-year-old said that the idea came to her during the pregnancy. Calling it a "simple way" that each of us can live kinder lives, she promoted the idea of sharing old clothes from mothers' closets back into the circular fashion system and batted for "shopping preloved". "During my pregnancy, I thought this phase in our lives is uniquely suited to participate in the circular economy. So I hope we can kickstart this ecosystem together,” she said, adding, “For instance, if even just 1 percent of pregnant women in urban India bought one piece of preloved maternity clothing over newly manufactured, each year we can conservatively save about as much water as a person drinks in over 200 years! This is a way in which a small action of each individual can make a real difference".
Sharma's contributions will be available to fans on Dolce Vee, a website known for offering pre-loved pieces. Meanwhile, the actor is currently accompanying her husband on the tour of England with their daughter for the World Test Championship (WTC).
