Anupama Fame Rupali Ganguly Talks About Ageism in TV Industry

Anupama, the television show has now become a household name. The protagonist played by  Rupali Ganguly has also touched the hearts of Indian women in many ways. Anupama has raised issues concerning women and many Indian women can relate to it.

Ganguly several times opened up on her journey as an actor, and how show Anupama is her second inning in acting. Recently, she opened up on ageism in the television industry and simultaneously applaud the makers of the show for giving her the show. 

She said that in the television industry generally younger women are cast as mothers, Anupama's makers took a risk by casting her in her 40s. We generally see that in television shows and even in movies younger women are cast against men who are sometimes even of the age of their fathers.

Rupali Ganguly On Ageism

In Hindustan Times report, Ganguly said, "Television mein generally hota hai ki younger ladkia ma ban jati hain aur 25-26 saal mein aapka 20-25 sal ka beta dikha diya jata hai (In the TV industry young girls are cast as mothers of sons aged 20-25). So, Rajan kept the timelines and the age lines very real and I think that is what predominantly connected." 

Ganguly applauded the casting team of the show for keeping the timeline natural and the age line very authentic and taking the risk of casting a woman in her 40s and that is why the audience connected to the show and the story.

Anupama is a superhit show and is at the top of the list of TRP. While talking to Hindustan Times she mentioned that it is very fortunate for her that she got the chance of playing the role of Anupama at this point in her life. She also talked about how television is a platform that is not unfair to anyone, and it gives everyone the chance to exhibit their craft. She says that this platform has provided her with the recognition and fame that everyone in the industry desires.

Anupama is a show about a Gujarati woman whose life revolves around her husband and kids, the show proceeds with her finding her true identity after her husband's extramarital affair is revealed. As the show is about a mother who has children at a decent age, the character naturally would have suited an older lady at least in her late 40s. Ganguly can relate to Anupama and the way her character develops over time. She herself being a mother, know what goes behind. Although she has appreciated her spouse in multiple interviews for good parenting.
