Actor Amala Paul has lodged a police complaint against her former friend Bhavninder Singh Dhatt for allegedly cheating her in a business deal and threatening to post her pictures on social media. Dhatt was arrested by the Villupuram police after they filed a complaint against him under 16 different legal provisions.
The actor and Dhatt, according to the police, established a film production firm in 2018 and afterwards relocated to Periyamudaliyar Chavadi, a neighbourhood close to Auroville. They eventually split up, though, after becoming apart. However, the actor produced her most recent film, Cadaver, with a significant investment in the production firm.
According to a report in The Hindu, police claimed that Dhatt scammed Amala Paul by forging documents to remove her as the company's director. According to the police, he further threatened her that he would post their pictures on social media. The Villupuram police arrested Dhatt after receiving a complaint from Paul that was filed under several sections, including forgery, intimidation, and harassment. Further investigation is underway.

- After they split up, Paul made a major investment in the production business and produced her latest film, Cadaver.
- In the year 2020, Dhatt published images of Amala Paul and him dressed in Rajasthani wedding costumes. After the pictures went viral, there were rumours that the couple was married.
- However, Paul filed a defamation lawsuit against Dhatt at the Madras High Court in November 2020. She stated that Dhatt had falsely misrepresented the images from their 2018 private photoshoot as their wedding images.
- Amala Paul claimed that this caused her severe mental stress in her plea. After that, Dhatt subsequently removed the images.

- In the complaint she filed, she claims that Bhavninder Singh Dhatt defrauded her and produced false documents to remove her as the company's director. The actor has also alleged that Dhatt has been mentally harassing her with threats.
