'Special 26' Sequel In The Making? Here's Akshay Kumar's Response

Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher starrer crime film Special 26 became massively popular upon its release, making people want a sequel. The movie is based on the true story of robberies executed by con men in the 1980s, the movie was completed 10 years of its release recently.

Neeraj Pandey's blockbuster crime movie Special 26 was released on February 8, 2013. The film completed 10 years since its release on Wednesday and the occasion again brought up the topic of the sequel of the film. Soon after the release of the film, the audience was in hope of a second part of the film.

Keeping the idea of part two at the bay for years, director Neeraj Pandey finally confirmed in 2018 that a sequel is indeed under work and that the production house has registered a few suggestive titles for the film. However, back then he reportedly said that he wasn't sure whether Akshay Kumar will be a part of it or not.

Akshay Kumar On Special 26 Sequel

Celebrating 10 years of the film, actors Anupam Kher and Akshay Kumar had an exchange on Twitter about the future of the sequel of Special 26. Anupam Kher posted on his official account in Hindi, "Today our #Special26 completed 10 years." He further wrote that he asked the promising director Neeraj Pandey many times to make the sequel of the film but all in vain. He attached a poll to the Tweet with options 'Yes' and 'No' and asked Twitter users whether there should be a sequel of the film or not.

Kher tagged his co-star from the film Akshay Kumar who retweeted his tweet and wrote, "I’m ready if the script is ready. Asli power script mein hoti hai :)".

This exchange gave fans hope that the actor might be a part of the sequel. A Twitter user wrote, "Please make then! Special26 part 1 has a cult following n the way the film left a hint in the end, it's clear they can make part 2 as the continuation of the previous story! What a film n power-packed performance by Ajju (you), the bgm was bang on too! #AkshayKumar please".

Special 26 was based on the true events of the 1987 Opera House heist and followed a group of con men who posed as CBI officers to conduct fake raids and robbed the black money of rich people. The movie also starred Kajal Aggarwal, Manoj Bajpayee, Jimmy Shergill and Divya Dutta in important roles.
