Apart from his foray into theatre and Bollywood, Hussain has successfully crossed over to the international cinema and has been part of successful movies like The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Life of Pi. He made is film debut opposite Soha Ali Khan in Iti Srikanta.

Here are six powerful quotes by the actor of critically acclaimed films like Parched (2015), English Vinglish (2012),  Raahgir- The Wayfarer (2019), and Chutney (2016).

  • Recently old pictures of the film Parched starring Radhika Apte and Adil Hussain resurfaced on Twitter with hashtags of Boycott Radhika Apte. Reaction to that Hussain in an interview said that he was naked in the scene too and has no issues performing a love-making scene on-screen. Adding, "What's the logic of shying away? Aren't we the land of 1.3 billion people? Isn't this the land Kamasutra originated?"
  • On Women Day 2020, Hussain shared an LA Times article on "What would a world without a woman look like? On March 9 Mexico may find out." While reposting he said that he is really eager for the same sort of thing to happen in India. On March 9, no women in Mexico were going to work or purchase anything for 24 hours as a protest.

  • In 2018, when #MeToo movement had gathered momentum with more women coming out and calling out sexual misconduct, Hussain stood up as an ally to the movement. In an interview with PTI during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), he said that it is appalling how people are putting women down when they are naming and shaming their abusers.
  • During the same interview, Hussain also said that patriarchy is "the greatest apartheid" as it alienated half of the population in the world.
  • On December 7, 2018, Fun Cinemas in Guwahati had put up a welcome notice in theatres reading, "Office, Nagging Wife, K-Serials; Leave Them All Behind." Raging on the nagging wife comment and the hypermasculine tone of the message, Hussain while tagging the cinema tweeted, "Is this how you will attract your customer to the cinema? How can you be so sexist? 'Leaving behind nagging wife'??! Take it down ASAP (as soon as possible) please." Cinepolis India, the owner of Fun Cinemas immediately apologised.

  • Again on December 20, 2018, Hussain reacted to the news of representatives of film fraternity meeting with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. But in those 'representatives' there was no woman present. Hussain tweeted guessing that it is just "a normal patriarchal error". He also sarcastically said that it is a habit to unconsciously exclude women from the decision-making process.
