Aarya season 2 release date and time: The much-awaited second season of the Sushmita Sen-starrer show Aarya is gearing up for release this month, packing a punch into the final watchlist of 2021. A trailer for the series that dropped November 25 has generated massive buzz among fans of the series, the upcoming installment of which will pick up where the thriller left off in its first season last year.
Aarya, directed by Ram Madhvani, marked Sen's foray into the OTT format. The first season went on to receive global acclaim and was honoured at the International Emmy Awards with a nomination.
It is based on the Dutch drama series Penoza and follows Aarya's (Sen) journey into the dark underbelly of the mafia. In season 1, we are introduced to Aarya, a happy mother of three, who is oblivious to her pharma baron husband's involvement in the drug trade. Upon finding out about his illegal business, Aarya urges her husband to come clean and break off all the ties with his shady partners. However, this move doesn't go down well with other parties in the equation, resulting in the death of Aarya's husband. Left to fend for herself, Aarya takes over her husband's drug trade so that she can ensure the safety of her children.
However, the season 2 trailer tells us that Aarya is once again pushed into taking tough and brutal calls when she realises that her children might be in danger.
The show also stars Sikandar Kher, Chandrachur Singh, Virti Vaghani and Sugandha Garg, among other actors.
"This season, her weakness is her greatest strength. Sherni aarahi hai," Sen wrote on social media last month, unveiling the trailer for Aarya season two.
In a unique promo, Sen's film industry colleague Madhuri Dixit Nene came aboard the project for a visual recap of Aarya season one, ahead of the second season's release. Taking the audience through a revisit of the betrayals and wounds Aarya suffered at the hands of the underworld and her own family, Nene ends her monologue, saying that an injured lioness is the most dangerous.
Sen, in an interview with Indian Express, revealed how the show has allowed her to "learn and unlearn" her art. Director Madhvani, she said, was insistent on Sen and her character Aarya being similar so they were "closer to the truth." She added, "I did not receive any character traits in terms of physicality, which actors usually get."
Aarya season two begins streaming December 10 on Disney+ Hotstar. All the latest episodes are now available for viewing.
